Alice In Central Park

hare

Happy Easter! However, it wasn't the Easter Bunny that I found in Central Park's Upper East Side (at 74th Street) last month. Rather, it was the hectic Hare from Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland." He's running late for a tea party, not an egg-hunt.

The sculpture was made by Jose de Creeft in 1959, commissioned by philantrophist George Delacorte in honor of his wife, Margarita.

Lewis Carroll was a mathematician in real life, whose knack for numbers showed in the way he made his words rhyme. If you've seen the Tim Burton movie, you'll hear the poem above recited by the Mad Hatter (Johnny Depp) in the Tea Party scene.

I wanted to fall into Lewis Carroll's rabbit-hole of rhymes so I bought a cheap paperback of "Alice in Wonderland." I doubt there's ever a need for a basement dehumidifier down there, though.

Heehee, ang cute ng rebulto ni Alice. I remember the Alice in Disney Parade in HKG, not so childlike yung face.

Happy Easter to you and your family!
