I was about to toss the MTA card I used from my recent trip to New York City when I saw this on the back. A random philosophical musing by Herodotus!
I decided that it's going to be a keeper. I like seeing trivia and quotes in the most unlikely places, such as those imprinted underneath Snapple bottle caps. It sure beats fortune cookies! Something to ponder upon while waiting for the subway or as you ride in it!
Just found out that "Train of Thought" is a train-brainchild of the MTA that includes mind-stimulating quotes on posters placed inside subway cars and buses around the Big Apple. The quotes are chosen by Columbia University faculty members from its Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
I remember being on a subway and being entranced by a piece of poetry just above the window. I wanted to take a photo of it, but the passenger sitting right below it might suspect I'm photographing him, so I didn't.
Even that trivia show "Jeopardy!" is so charmed by this idea that they're sponsoring it.

Glad you posted this because I also enjoy reading those "Train of Thought" posters above people's heads in the subway. It's thought provoking really.
I love that quote! We don't have even have the public transportation, much less provocative and cool quotes to ponder here. Guess I need to go buy some snapple :)
Alas... Herodotus was right...
That is a very good initiative... make people think a bit...
