...Which brings me to share this philatelic topic on lighthouse stamps. A postcard I recently received from Germany through Postcrossing had these wonderful stamps featuring lighthouses from Amrum and Hornum. I love the color combination of red and white on lighthouses. Reminds me of barber shops and candy canes.
Meanwhile, the USPS has also released its Gulf Coast Lighthouses stamp sheet bearing the domestic rate of 44 cents. What a coincidence!
The five lighthouses chosen are special for this reason:
"Five lighthouses that withstood the fury of devastating hurricanes — in some cases while partially submerged — will stand tall on postage with the issuance of the Gulf Coast Lighthouses commemorative stamps. [....] the 44-cent First-Class stamps, issued in sheets of 20, depict the Matagorda Island (TX), Sabine Pass (LA), Biloxi (MS), Sand Island (AL) and Fort Jefferson (FL) lighthouses."The hurricanes referred to are Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.

You're making interested with stamps that I'll see from now on. Come to think of it, I used to collect stamps when I was in high school.
i hope you got my postcard already! i think i used these lighthouse stamps on it! :)
Hi, and happy PFF! the Great Lakes have some interesting lighthouses too.
I wonder whether the red and white helps visibility. they do stand out more in daylight.
I love lighthouses! Love the stamps. Very enjoyable post!
Gotta get me some of those lighthouse stamps tomorrow. I also have received a few of the German stamps, and they were better than the postcards they were stuck to!
Love the stamps and the lighthouses! Did you know author Robert Louis Stevenson's family built *all* the lighthouses along the coast of England?
I love lighthouses! These are beautiful stamps. To add to what JamaGenie said above, the Stevensons were a Scottish family and the lighthouses they built were in and around Scotland, not England. The difference may not seem important to those of you across the Atlantic, but I can assure you, it would to a Scot! :)
Coincidentally, I'm showing a lighthouse postcard today.
Wonderful stamps! I like the barber pole lighthouses too. Happy PFF!
We have more lighthouses than anyone else in Michigan. But no hurricanes.
lighthouses are so interesting and often located at very exciting places - for boats anyway. I love visiting them. It's always very windy!
Very interesting. I'd be curious to see what kind of postcard these came on.
Howdy
Happy PFF to you .
Wow those are really wonderful stamps.
I love Lighthouses so I especially enjoyed your post.

Have a fabulous weekend.
Happy Trails
