Litratong Pinoy#62: Merienda (Snack)

Photobucket

Behold, street food from the Philippines: snacks on sticks grilled over open fire--my favorite! The western world may regard this as "bizarre food," especially where chicken/pork intestines, chicken heads and chicken's coagulated blood are concerned, but I am still a fan. My all-time favorites are actually fishballs/squidballs dipped in spicy sauce, but on this menu you see here, I ordered chicken intestines. Love the smell of smoke, charcoal, and glazed innards wafting across the street. This was from my aunt's subdivision in San Mateo, Rizal, Philippines last November 2008.

This home-made pizza is a popular item in my relative's small business at their neighborhood in Taguig, also in the Philippines. It was served to us as "merienda" when we visited their place back in November. It's not Pizza Hut or even Greenwich, but I loved the sweet flavor of the sauce, the local cheese used and the raw onion bits--giving it more flavor.

Grabeng katakawan yun!
