Litratong Pinoy#58: Tuyo (Dry)

fishy

Now here's something literally dry: dried fish by the basketful at a roadside dried fish market in Roxas City, which, by the way, is the "Seafood Capital of the Philippines." I had bought different varieties of dried fish last year to take back with me to the States, and I had checked in an entire suitcase filled with such delicacies wrapped in newspaper.

I knew they were going to check my suitcase because of its strong smell, but I didn't mind exposing its contents. I felt sorry for the customs officer who had to inspect it, though. I will never forget the olfactory discomfort all over her face. Haha.

Daing kayo diyan!!!

Pag nagpriprito kami ng danggit o dried pusit dito, haay talagang humahalimuyak ang amoy sa loob ng bahay. Pero pag ganitong summer, sa labas namin ginagawa. Bahala na magtaka ang kapit-bahay namin. Do you smell what the Rock is cooking?! Haha.

My family/relatives send me my supply of dried stuff through the empost. I'm always a happy tummy because of danggit, korean squid, etc.

I am surprised you were allowed to take the dried fish back to USA, we certainly couldn't bring them into New Zealand, we would be fined heavily if we even tried. They look so good but would be just full of tiny bones wouldn't they, what do you do with the small dried fish?
