Sunshine Yellow Post Office

Whenever I travel to the Philippines (I was there twice last year), I usually stay with my aunt in the province of Rizal. This is the central post office in the town of San Mateo which I photographed in February 2008. I had a bit of a hard time locating it, though, because it's tucked away from the town's main street. It's more like a small house than a post office, really. Once you're inside, there's only a few desks with postal workers to serve the public's mailing needs. I mailed some postcards that time, and saw that people's mail were placed in baskets!

The windows are open-air, the workers are kept cool by a few electric fans inside. Gotta love the bright yellow paint! Sets the mood for snail mail love!

(Terry nearly made me write Howdy too.) Thank you for posting this nice photo. It made me think about that summer long ago when I was earning my holiday budget at our local post office. At night, we had to sort out the mail and throw the letteers and packages in different sacks. That's why I'll never put a bottle in a Dutch post package: I can't imagine it wont't arrive broken. Greetings from Amsterdam.

Lovely photo ^_^ Bright and happy. Makes me homesick for the Philippines. I wonder if we, in the West, really do have a better life...

That's a happy looking post office. It has a lot more character than the ones here.

I worked at a post office one summer too. It was a post office that handled a lot of sweepstakes mail, so most of my time was spent sorting the sweepstakes mail into different box numbers.

Thanks for sharing. I thought I didn't like yellow, but now my dining room is yellow (not as bright as this) and I love it.

I like the sound of their operation. Progress is overrated sometimes.

Oh I love this bright sunny yellow post office. I think all post offices should be a bright and happy / sunny place. I think that is why I love my post office here. It isn't painted a bright sunny yellow, but the people that work there are bright and sunny. :-)

Have a beautiful weekend.

Would've loved to see a picture of that basket. As long as a postal worker can keep an eye on it, then I suppose its ok to use a basket for mail. =)

San Mateo, I think, has been renamed Rodriguez. Someone correct me, please... Anyway, I prefer houses in the city or even the provinces to be in such coating if not milder ones. It's not really attractive to see paint-less houses.
