I'm invited to a Renewal of Wedding Vows/70th Birthday Party this Saturday. I already bought the gift for the first occasion: a pair of Waterford goblets, but was stumped about the latter. What do you get a 70-year-old man that you barely know who's married to a Filipino pediatrician and takes speedboating/fishing trips on the Hudson River in the summer? Add to that the fact that I have close to zero budget in buying more gifts because I spent so much money shopping Winter Clearance Sales for myself! Haha.
Surely, someone is bound to get him a tie or a wallet or those men's grooming kits with face cream. But not moi! I therefore squeezed my creative juices to draw a portrait of the birthday boy copied from his photo enclosure from the party invitation. First, I used pencil (above) on this 4.5 x 6.5 textured piece of card stock which I got in a stack from a Home Goods store. Then, I added black ink and erased the pencil strokes. Framed the art with an extra photo frame I have at home and voila! An art gift that's a labor of love.
