Silver Bean, Silver Bean

bean

The number one thing on my "to-see" list in my recent trip to Chicago was the "Cloud Gate" sculpture at Millennium Park. Locals like to call it the "Bean" because it's shaped like one, but shiny and silvery. It's created by British artist Anish Kapoor--his very first public outdoor art installation in the United States.

I finally got my travel wish granted...on my birthday!

The "Bean" weighs 110 tons, measures 66 feet long and 33 feet high, and is made up of polished stainless steel plates forged together to become this fluid-looking metallic masterpiece. If you melted this sculpture, can you imagine how many silver spoons or stainless steel drums can be made out of it?

If this were a magic bean and sprouted a beanstalk, it will probably reach the moon.
