Last month, I revisited the New York Public Library specifically to admire the Rose Main Reading Room on the third floor.
The interiors exuded a solemn, church-like atmosphere with rows of study carrels for "pews". They weren't like any of the classroom furniture I've ever encountered as a student in the Philippines.
This grand library was featured in that classic Audrey Hepburn film, "Breakfast at Tiffany's," in that scene where Holly and Paul (George Peppard) looked up his author card in the library's catalog.
And who wouldn't want to read with these elegant, golden lamps? By the way, tourists do come here, so I'm not the only one snapping away in the reading room. If you visit the NYPL, remember to disable your camera's flash. Let Photoshop do its magic with your pictures later on.

classy... sana ganyan din ka elegant ang libraries dito sa SG.. hehe asa pa ako. Pero hindi ko din alam kung anong itsura nang SG libraries sa loob e.
Gorgeous reading room...I wanted to visit it last winter when I was in NYC, but it was New Year's Day and it was closed :( Have to give it another try this fall when I'll be in the city again.
sidney & lawstude: yes, it really is beautiful inside. you're compelled to fall silent even without being reminded to do so! hehe.
witsandnuts: those new yorkers are lucky to have this for a library! i had to ride a bus for an hour to get there! :P

i love libraries! When I studied in Seattle, I liked to go and spend time in a public library near my place. It's not this beautiful but I like the quietness and the good feeling of being surrounded by books :-)

agree with Lawstude, the library looks more like a museum and i just love it. I hope i can visit someday. Ok lang pala ang turista diyan, da best! :)
