What are these people queueing for, you ask? Home-made Filipino food!
It's a "tradition" observed by the Filipino community in my area every third Sunday of the month. A mass is celebrated in Filipino at the St. Peter the Apostle Church in Parsippany, New Jersey.
The special Filipino mass is sponsored by the religious organization "Barangay of the Virgin's" local chapter, the president of which is a good family friend of ours. After mass, the people march into the church's hall for this Pinoy-style dinner buffet.
Yesterday's fares included pancit, arroz valenciana, pork liempo, lechon chicken, and various pasta dishes for the kids. Families bring whatever they can, potluck-style. People then eat together and chat, catching up with each other's lives.
We got to meet our 16-year-old cousin's girlfriend for the first time. The girl was older than him, but very petite, typical Filipina. They look cute together. They're not on this photo, in case you're wondering.
I'm sorry I didn't get to photograph my plate. I was too famished. My plate was a styrofoam cornucopia of everything on the menu, that I can tell you.
3 vandalized my wall:
did you bring your signature spaghetti dish?
nope, somebody else already brought spaghetti. my family brought a gallon of water, haha!
huwaw, that's a really nice community event! here in tokyo, we used to do that when we were still students, but now, everybody seems to busy with their own affairs ;-(
